Badhaai Do Story Line:

Best friends Sumi and Shardul have always known they wanted to be with each other, but unfortunately in their small hometown of __, being gay isn’t accepted. There are marriage laws in the town that state that two men or two women cannot marry for love.

This is because the people live by cultural norms that dictate how a person should behave based on their gender. Sumi and Shardul elope to New York City where they can be free to fall in love with whomever they want!
